Goku Needs Your Help – Just Watch This Video!

Posted by Neko Kyou in Updates on March 21st, 2011

A message from the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama. All you have to do is watch the video above and all revenue generated will go towards Japan’s relief fund.

You can also leave a message, which will then be translated to Japanese and sent to the victims of the disaster.

For those who don’t know, YouTube actually pays the owner of the video some money based on the number of views it generated so if you’re wondering where the money will come from, now you know.

Sending Donations to Aid Japan

Posted by Neko Kyou in Updates on March 17th, 2011

It’s been almost a week since the earthquake and tsunami crisis happened in Japan, and even now they are facing a nuclear crisis in the midst of rescue operations.

And while the whole world has begun sending aid and donations, sadly the responses have been rather poor compared the Haiti and Katrina disaster. Over $150 million was raised for Haiti and $108 million for hurricane Katrina. However, the numbers for Japan so far has been pretty low – $25 million after almost a week.

This is probably because Japan is a developed country with a healthy GDP and so the general public feels less need to donate. If we compare Haiti to a homeless man, and Japan to a rather well off person, when both of them gets run over by a car, chances are the public will be quick to chip in to help the poor man and not really taking notice of the other similar victim. We have to keep in mind that a disaster is still a disaster, regardless of where it happened and who the victims were.

Please do help out!

Especially if you’re an anime or manga fan. These are products of Japan, and if you feel that you’ve enjoyed what they have given us, then it’s time to give back no matter how little.

Fellow anime blogger Mike of Anime Diet and Daniella of All About Manga have started the Anime Manga Bloggers for Japan project, which you can check it out here:
http://www.bloggers4japan.com/

You can also make donations there, or if you prefer, you can also make donations directly to the Red Cross Society, or through Google Crisis Response.

Seiyuu Roll Call (Earthquake & Tsunami Aftermath)

Posted by Neko Kyou in Updates on March 12th, 2011

If you haven’t heard about the horrific earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan yesterday, you really should check this out now:
http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/12/japan-earthquake-live-blog-death-toll-rises-amid-widespread-destruction/?hpt=T1

For those of you worried about the status of your favourite seiyuu, Anime News Network is keeping tabs on that here:

Good to see lots of familiar names on the list, although I’m sad to see that Chihara Minori and Megumi Hayashibara isn’t on the list yet.

Scratch that, Minorin seems to be shaken but fine based on her latest update on her blog.
