Here are the cosplay pictures from DaiCon ’09

The 6 cosplay finalists that were paired into 3 groups for the finals. You can watch the video recording of the finals here.

Riku was one of my favourite, but she disappeared after a while.

This guy has really long swords…

Lightsabers look so much cooler in the dark.

Videos From DaiCon Cosplay Finals

Posted by Neko Kyou in Random Fun on July 13th, 2009

6 finalists for the solo cosplay competition at DaiCon were randomly paired up and asked to give a 5 minutes performance on “romance”. As fate would have it, there were 3 guys and 3 girls in the final 6… and so it was fated that we have a gay pair, a straight pair and a lesbian pair. Cool, huh? 😀

First duo: Dante Son of Sparda & Mario

Easily the best performance during the finals. Dante got 3rd place while Mario won 1st place. The ” want mushroom?” bit cracked the audience up.

Second group: Mio & DanceTrooper

They both did really well earlier with Mio’s Moe Moe Kyun~ and the DanceTrooper’s Thriller dance move and moonwalk.

Third group: Haruhi & Elizabeth

I was sad that Haruhi switched to her seifuku, I liked the bunny gal outfit she wore earlier. Elizabth won 2nd place in the cosplay competition.

Posted by Neko Kyou in Random Fun on April 29th, 2009

Starting from the 1st until the 3rd of May, DaiCon Committees will be joining the EMiNA Cyber Roadshow held at One Utama Highstreet Haha no Hi event. Activities slated there include cosplay photoshoots, displays of Japanese Modern Visual Culture materials (manga, anime, magazines, figurines and many more) as well as free merchandise giveaways courtesy of Animax-Asia and ASTRO.But that’s not all! We’re also holding a sneak preview ticket sales for Miss Chihara Minori’s appearance in DaiCon. Don’t miss this special early bird sales at our roadshow! Tickets to be sold: AWSM Tickets = RM 250

– Specially numbered ELITE seats for Miss Chihara Minori’s Q&A Panel on Day 1 and Mini-Concert on Day 2.
– Lucky Draw chance to be upgraded in to AWSM tickets. (limited to 15 people only).

Holy shit! RM250 to get a chance for her autograph!

Considering such a rare chance, RM250 is quite worth it. But I’m already stretching my budget really thin to get there, so hopefully I’ll be able to scrap up enough cash for it.

I want that autograph!

DaiCon is also taking pre-orders for Johnny merchandise at 56th_avenue@LiveJournal by May 10th. You can get your hands on that poster/calendar/magazine of Kat-Tun/NEWS/Arashi you’ve always wanted and collect them during DaiCon itself.

There will also be some of the merchandise being sold at the event, but if you really want something, you should pre-order or else you might miss out on the chance.

Comic Fest Part 1

Posted by khilly in Random Fun on January 10th, 2009

My comic fest day started very late. Arrive at Sunway at around 2 then headed straight for the convention hall. My first reaction was just plain shocking. I only went to 2 anime/manga/comic convention and this is my second. The amount of cosplayers were more and furthermore, they were good.

Some chinese origin custome

Then I have to honor my deal with Neku. He sponsors my trip and I was to be his eyes and ears. Asking the first time was the hardest for me. With a mixture of being shy and shocked, I manage to break the ice and ask for my first cosplayer pics.

Neko Maid Outfit

The Joker

Why so serious?

From there onwards, my subdued otaku personality started to rise up I started snapping away.

Another Maid

Kyon of Bleach

Upon entering the hall, it was like a  mini PC fair. First half of the hall was the stage and coupled with some sponsors booth. Then there was the doujins area which I headed straight for it. There was a lot of doujin booth selling their artworks. I visited each of their stalls and started to wish I have hundreds to spend there.

Most of the artwork there was good and not to mention all the little cute handicrafts waiting to be picked up by you. Nothing beats supporting your local industry and enjoying yourself at the same time.

Kagamine Rin & Hatsune Miku

Bleach Team

Demyx, Organization XIII, Kingdom Hearts 2

Maid and Yuna from FFX

Taichi Kamiya & Kari Kamiya

In between my shopping spree, I do manage to take a few more cosplayers here and there. But sadly I did miss out on the events that happened on the stage coz I was too busy supporting doujin groups and taking pictures. But around 4-5 I left early because I was out of money and the first day was slow.

Lots of Figma Figurines

More Chinese Origin Cosplayers

GACC 2008 – Part I (Cosplay)

Posted by Neko Kyou in Personal on March 3rd, 2008

So I woke up at 6am this morning (or rather, yesterday morning, since it’s already passed midnight) because I was supposed to go to MMU Melaka for the Games Anime Comic Circle, the same one Kurogane had been covering for both days of the event. The original plan was to start heading towards our destination by 7am and reach there by 10.

But, I ended up waiting until 9am before my ride arrived. If we had left when we had originally planned to, we might have realized that earlier that we needed to get a number in order to get an autograph from Masakazu Morita, which was only limited to 100 people.

It’s actually my first time attending an event such as this, so the experience is really very new to me. And even though I was looking forward to it, I didn’t know I would have that much fun running around, checking out the booths and cosplays. There’s also something else I’ve learned, cosplays looks so much better when you’re there to see it in person rather than just looking at pics. Some might look good in person but doesn’t even look half as good when captured on camera. Now I’ll probably think twice before judging pictures taken of cosplays which looks lame.

And, I really need to invest in a newer, better digital camera with a larger memory stick the next time I attend such an event…

The whole album has been uploaded in full size to my flickr’s GACC2008 album. Here are some of my favourite shots of the day:

Hitsugaya & Matsumoto Cosplay GACC2008

Hitsugay taichou has really funky hair

Ichigo & Espada Cosplay

The Espada cosplays are pretty good, I think the entire Espadas were there…

Syaoran & Sakura

How can I resist cosplays of my favourite series? And I really love this pose!

Hard Gay!

“Domo! Haado Gay des! FOO!!!”

Ichigo & Rukia

Bleach cosplays were all over the place thanks to Morita-san being the special guest?

Masakazu Morita

Masakazu Morita greeting his fans (read: everyone in the room)

As I was just telling Dyna recently while discussing about a post idea he had, Japanese seiyuu’s are worshipped pretty much wherever they go as long as there are anime fans around. And that’s pretty much everywhere.

Kon & Me

Kon is one of the best cosplay around 😀

I managed to take a few short videos of when Morita was on stage (and screaming “Bankai!” multiple times) and spent almost all the money I’ve brought with me which I’ll be putting up in the next post or two. Fortunately, I didn’t have that much with me, so I didn’t spend that much. Unfortunately, that also meant that I couldn’t buy many stuff which I wanted to. Like the Haruhi figurines. Damn, those are expensive!
