The Immortal Colselaw Lives! G00 Impressions

The Immortal Colasour

He’s the type of character who started off as someone you’d love to get a hold of to stab, hammer and choke until he dies, but somehow once you start to accept him as a comic relief with no real reason to be there, he grows on you like how fungus grows on your bread – you like exactly like it but it still happens.

When everyone thought he has finally kicked the bucket in the previous episode, I continued to believe in his insane luck at staying alive despite the odds without as much as a scratch. And he pulled through.

Patrick and Katie’s marriage immediately reminded me of another somewhat mismatched couple – Johnny and Meryl in MGS4. In fact, both couples are actually similar. The bride is the higher ranking, no-nonsense and generally the one in charge while the groom is the happy go lucky comic relief character of the show.

Exia vs 0 Gundam

The final showdown between Setsuna and Ribbons is probably one of the rare stroke of genius that comes along once in a while in Sunrise. It’s quite a proven formula that going all out in the finale and eventually stripping everything down to the basics works. It worked in MGS4 (Old Snake vs Liquid Ocelot), it worked in Gurren Lagann and it worked here.

Having 00-Raiser vs Reborn Cannon, and ending it with Exia vs 0 Gundam was just brilliant. This is easily the best and most entertaining mecha showdown I’ve seen since Gurren Lagann.

I mean, can you believe it? Sunrise didn’t introduce even more overpowered suits like I had originally thought when Sumeragi called for “R2” to be sent. They got a downgrade instead, and what satisfying downgrade that was. Although, it seems Exia was somewhat improved with a new blade. And I still prefer Rogue Exia.

When Gundam 00 first started, I was very critical of it. Looking back now, yes it still sucks for the most parts but at least now I’m proud to say that I liked the series. It was entertaining and I can’t wait for the movie to be out next year.

Allelujah / Hallelujah Haptism

Hallelujah finally gets to show his stuff in S2, too bad he got pwned soon after…

I think Allelujah/Hallelujah is the most talented pilot in Gundam 00 before Setsuna turned Innovator. There’s Ribbons too, but he only fought in the final episode and only against Innovator Setsuna. He’s probably better than H/Allelujah, but overall H/Allelujah’s fight has always been much more entertaining and he usually always win right before he gets pwned.

You don’t often get a crazy, insane pilot such as him on the good side, especially in a Gundam series. Those roles are usually filled in by some experimental or just plain insane pilots from the enemy’s side.

Quick Thoughts on Index

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on March 27th, 2009

Out of many of the newer anime from the last few seasons, I think To Aru Majutsu no Index is one of the best. I’ve always had a soft spot when it comes to magic and science mixed together. That alone made Index worth checking out for many.

Although the pacing of the story could use some work, overall the show was great. It could have used more scenes with Index explaining things like she did during the first arc, but otherwise it has a pretty good of balance between telling the story, giving each character enough screentime and great action scenes.

The ending was quite sudden (again, the pacing sucks) and even after Tsuchimikado explained it, I still didn’t get what the Imaginary Numbers Sector or whatever it’s called actually is. Not to mention it seems that the one controlling Academy City, the upside down guy in a giant tube, was a magician called Aleister Crowley.

Guess that means we’ll just have to wait for the new season to come out, which doesn’t look like it will be anytime soon. Most likely To Aru Kagaku no Railgun will be released first – not that I’m complaining. Misaka is such a brilliant character and she just doesn’t get enough screen time 😀

I mean, who would refuse more of this!

Naga the White Serpent Armor?

Posted by Neko Kyou in Slayers on March 20th, 2009

I finally managed to watch Slayers Evolution-R yesterday and about halfway through the first episode, Lina and co. met up with a singing armor. And the moment the armor started to laugh, it made me sit up straight in excitement.

It was pretty unmistakenable, only one person would laugh like that in the Slayers universe (and I only know one other who has a similar laugh from another series), that annoying “Ohohoho~” could only mean one thing – Naga the White Serpent has finally made an appearance in a Slayers series!

Or so I thought.

I mean, just compare the two images below!

Nama, Living Armor

Naga the White Serpent

I wish I could capture the laughter and put it up here as well…

That annoying living armor has definitely got to be Naga. She even managed to trigger Lina’s reflexes to hate her with a passion, especially that laugh and pose. There were other blatant clues as well, such as the glove and her silhouette during her brief memory flashback, her ice magic, her curious attraction to coins and she knew how to use the Pacifist Crush, a move unique to the Saillune royal family.

It was really a let down that we never did get to see Naga in her full boobs glory, since they only showed a laughing box after “Nama” was released from the armor back to her original body. Which makes me wonder, would she remember her encounter as Nama the armor?

It’s also sad that Amelia did not recognize her own sister. For those who still doesn’t know, Naga is Amelia’s eldest sister. But apparently, both are oblivious to the other’s existence and Amelia didn’t even question how Nama could do the Pacifist Crush. At least that’s what it seems like…

There are still a few episodes left in Evolution-R, but I really doubt that Naga will make a full appearance or even mentioned anymore. Naga was one of the more interesting characters in Slayers and probably the greatest expert in the arts of annoying Lina.

I want Naga back :(

Pokemon 12th Movie: Arceus Choukoku no Jikuu e

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon, Pokemon on March 6th, 2009

Starting from Mew and MewTwo, all the way to the titans Palkia, Dialga and Regigigas. And next is the God of Pokemon and the one currently sitting at the very top of the Pokemon hierarchy – Arceus.

This is supposedly the last movie of the Diamond & Pearl series. Makes you wonder what they’re going to come up with next.

Really though, how are they going to top the God of Pokemon? The God of an alternate Poke-world?
