Baka to Test to Shokanju Ni! Still As Good As Ever!

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on July 11th, 2011

Baka to Test to Shokanju was one of the best anime series of 2010, and one of the funniest anime released recently. That’s why when I heard the second season was coming, it immediately became the series I looked forward to the most among the Summer 2011 anime lineup.

“But I’m not a girl, damnit!!”

The first episode of Baka to Test to Shokanju Ni! did not disappoint at all. It had be rolling around with tears of laughter within the first few minutes and I had to cover my face with a pillow to stop myself from laughing too hard. You’ll likely end up like Mutsurini but instead of nosebleed, you’ll be drained of tears due to excessive laughing.

The story seems to continue soon after the end of the first season during summer vacation, which by the way, even thought I took a short vacation at a Twiddy beach house during the summer, it seemed like I had to wait forever for it to release. Story was never really a strong point of BakaTest, but it was also never the main focus. Although, it would be interesting to see another Exam Summoning Battle (or two) this season. I missed those FFF guys xD

Mutsuri getting knocked out even before they actually got down to the beach and Hideyoshi who was finally going to show everyone he’s a boy by wearing a proper pair of trunks got stopped and carried away by the guards were some of the best moments this episode. That’s assuming you survived the hilarious dialogue during the ride to the beach…

Since Yoshii’s summon field bracelet self-destructed at the end of season 1, that means no summons appeared this episode, which was kinda sad.

BakaTest Ni is following its original formula and nothing has changed. It’s still the same old baka-tachi doing stupid things.

If you’ve never watched the original series, you’re seriously missing out.

Note to self – pick up photography…

Spring Anime 2011 Impressions: C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on April 20th, 2011

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is one of the Spring 2011 anime that caught my attention during its announcement and I have to admit it’s largely because the name is very similar to “Money and Probability” in Bakuman. Of course, the similarity is in the name only but it was enough to get me interested.

The story for C seems to be set in the modern world where a mysterious race of beings that cannot be seen with the naked eyes offers a large sum of money for those who need it with their future used as collateral. The first few minutes is really quite confusing with so many actions going on at once that is never once explained. It will probably take a few episodes before anything really makes sense, but in the mean time the great design, animation and intriguing storyline is enough to hook you in to want to continue watching and find out more.

As far as first impressions go for this season, C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is sitting at the top right now. It doesn’t hurt that they can summon Anubis for battle and one of the chars reminds me the Mad Hatter.

Spring Anime 2011 Impressions: Nichijou (Selamat Pagi!)

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on April 7th, 2011

Nichijou is pretty silly, doesn’t really make any sense and the art and animation is kinda meh. But it does bring in the laughs, which started to kick in for me until the “Selamat Pagi” gag, which means good morning in Malay (and for those of you wondering, Selamat Malam is good night).

It kinda reminds me of Kyou no Go no Ni, although I can’t really find myself to really like Nichijou just yet. While there are some parts that just makes you laugh, there are just many stupid jokes that ruins the mood.

I’ll probably need to give Nichijou another episode before deciding whether or not to continue watching it.

Spring Anime 2011 Impressions: Dog Days

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on April 6th, 2011

Dog Days is really quite different than what I imagined it would be. It starts off pretty standard for a fantasy story and makes you believe that this is really about a kid getting whisked off to another world in order to become a war hero and lead the underdogs to victory.

But just as the plot starts to sink in a little and the war begins, everything gets thrown off a little when the “war” is really a large scale reality show / obstacle course much like Takeshi’s Castle and Wipeout.

And to be honest, I quite like it lol.

I was afraid that Dog Days would end up being another generic fantasy medieval warfare but the silliness that comes from how the war is played out is actually interesting.

Dog Days might actually end up as one of the more entertaining series among the spring anime season for 2011.

Fall ’08

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on November 12th, 2008

This was supposed to be a first impression of all the Fall season series I’ve watched, but since it’s been delayed for nearly 3 weeks, I’ve decided not to include series which I’ve dropped.

Gundam 00

Gundam 00 Season 2

It’s definitely looking a lot better than the first season, although I can’t help but feel that the scriptwriters are getting influenced by Code Geass and is going to turn the 2nd season into a trainwreck. They screwed up Tieria in a somewhat good way and it looks like every other character is about to get screwed over one way or another.

Clannad After Story

Clannad After Story

There’s not enough dango here! But other than that, Clannad is still looking good. A must watch for all Clannad fans!

To Aru Majutsu no Index

To Aru Majutsu no Index

The first episode was hilarious but the rest that followed was more serious. One of the better shows this season, but the pacing is kinda slow. After 6 episodes, it seems like everything is going to get “reset” with Touma losing his memories.

Kannagi

Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens

While the animation quality is lacking, this is one of the most fun show to watch this season. But I find myself wondering this a lot, why is an almighty goddess acting so much like a naive little girl who is totally clueless to the world around her? Then again, it’s her eccentric behaviour that makes it so much fun. Crazy Shrine Maiden is an excellent title for Kannagi.

Kyou no Go no Ni

Kyou no Go no Ni

Honestly, the first episode didn’t do much for me. The art design and animation is only sub-par and the storyline is a complete waste of time. But after a few more episodes I begin to find myself to really enjoy it. It has become a great and enjoyable way to complete waste your time. It’s not up to Lucky Star’s standard, but if you enjoyed Minami-ke, definitely give this a try.

Kemeko DX

Kemeko DX

Normally I would say this is trash. This time, however, I would say… Kemeko FTW!

Rosario + Vampire Capu2

Rosario + Vampire Capu2

The fanservice continues from where the first season left off, and those who read the manga would again say that the anime ruined the series. I don’t read the manga and I felt that the first season was much better in comparison to Capu2.

Toradora

Toradora

$(!)(@$&!! Not another Kugimiya Rie tsundere shana-louis-nagi anime. Taiga is like a mini-Louis!

I like Zero no Tsukaima, but having yet another similar love comedy tsundere Kugimiya Rie character just makes me feel like I’m watching the same thing again. Otherwise, Toradora is a pretty decent series.

Overall

A pretty good season lineup. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so busy the last few months that I haven’t really had the chance to enjoy the previous season’s offerings, but I’m quite satisfied with what the Fall season have to offer.
