More Anime To Watch Out For This Fall

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon on September 21st, 2007

Impz at THAT Animeblog posted a pretty comprehensive list of upcoming anime this fall along with whatever info he could dig up, which is actually quite a lot. I’ve added 5 new anime to my list of anime to watch out -

  • ef -a tale of memories
  • Ghost Hound
  • Dragonaut ~ The Resonance
  • Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji
  • Shion no Ou – The flowers of Hard Blood

Chibi ShanaDamn, I seriously hope I have enough time for all these. Add these to my current list of anime to watch out for, I have 11 anime on my list! And this doesn’t even include the list of anime I’m currently watching which you can find in my about page.

Most likely I’ll start dropping off some by the 3rd or fourth episode if they aren’t good enough. But if they’re all good, then I’m probably doomed XD

But still, Shana II is still at the very top of my list and gets the highest priority above the rest :D

L Movie – Death Note spinoff

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon on September 10th, 2007

L MovieI think most people would have already heard by now about the Death Note spinoff movie that’s coming out soon – L.

As one would have guessed, the spinoff movie focuses on L, known as the world’s greatest detective and the arch-nemesis of Kira in the Death Note series.

My first exposure to the Death Note franchise was actually the 2nd movie – Death Note: The Last Name, which I watched in Singapore with Dyna and Carbunkid. It blew me away and I immediately went in search of the first movie.

Then I tried to watch the anime and read the manga, but it didn’t really stick to me. It’s probably because of the strong impressions that I had experienced from the live action movie.

Needless to say, my favourite character from the movie was L, so I was pleasantly surprised when I initially heard that a new spinoff movie based on L would be made a few months back.

The spinoff movie would be about L’s work before he was brought over to Japan to handle the Kira case, which would ultimately be his last. We already know that Kira would be L’s strongest opponent, so it makes me wonder just how much of a challenge were his opponents prior to Light.

I have high hopes for this movie but it would be kinda boring if L were to easily solve all his assignments, yet they can’t make it his targets are more capable than Light as well. It would be interesting to see how the plot maneuvers over this. If anyone have any information on this, please let me know :D

The movie is set for release on the 9th of February, 2008. It’s currently sitting at the top of my “movies I must watch” list.

Shakugan no Shana Second (Trailer)

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon on September 4th, 2007

The holidays are over in a blink of an eye. It’s kinda hard to get back into writing and posting if you stopped doing it for more than a week or so.

Just to get things going again, I’ve just found this new 14 seconds trailer for Shakugan no Shana Second, one of the anime titles which I’m looking forward to this fall.

Looking Forward to Anime Titles this Fall

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon on August 21st, 2007

The anime fall season is upon us and many new titles will be showing up. Some are sequels, while most are new. What anime titles are you looking forward to?

Suzumiya Haruhi

For me, I had been eagerly awaiting for a second season of Suzumiya Haruhi. Although it would seem unlikely that Suzumiya Haruhi 2 will be showing up anytime soon, I’m still hoping to see KyoAni pulling a stunt by not doing any promo or announcement at all, or at least wait until the very last moment.

Shakugan no Shana

Putting Suzumiya Haruhi aside, I am looking forward to Shakugan no Shana Second. The ending of the first season suggests that Yoshida would play a larger role against the denizens of the Crimson Realm and her rivalry with Shana would escalate even higher. It would also be interesting to see whether Yuji himself would take up Blutsauger and fight alongside Shana.

Gundam 00 is something to look forward to as well, but I’m having doubts if it would be good. I don’t really like most of the character and MS design, but they really are secondary. The story would be the most important and hopefully we’re not getting another Wing. Nothing against Gundam Wing, but it just never really appealed to me except for some of its MS; namely Wing Zero Custom & Deathscythe.

Suteki Tantei Labyrinth sounds like something I would really like. I imagine it would be something like CLAMP School Detectives.

Other than those, a few others that caught my interest right now are:

  • Kodomo no Jikan
  • Shugo Chara
  • Minami-Ke
  • Rental Magica
  • Myself Yourself
  • Jushin Enbu
  • Goshuushousama Ninomiya-kun
  • MapleStory

There aren’t that much information on most of the new anime right now, but I’ll see what I can dig up.

MapleStory Anime

Posted by Neko Kyou in Coming Soon on August 16th, 2007

Maple StoryI totally never saw this coming. Never would I have expected that MapleStory would become an anime.

For those who don’t know what it is, MapleStory is a 2D side-scrolling Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by a Korean company called Wizet. It’s pretty popular especially in South East Asia.

Personally I’ve never played MapleStory before, probably because I was a Ragnarok Online player at the time. The gameplay somehow didn’t appeal to me, although I know many RO players eventually migrated over to either MapleStory or Gunbound due to the negligence of the region’s poorly maintained RO server. As far as I know, MapleSEA (MapleStory in South East Asia) had great server maintenance and is still very popular right now.

I guess I really shouldn’t have been so surprised that it would be turned into an anime. After all, Ragnarok Online did have one, although the real RO anime that everyone had been anticipating never made it for release.

While I’m not a MapleStory player, this is definitely something I’ll be looking into when it begins to air on October 7 by TV Tokyo. The series will be on every Sunday, 8.30 am in Japan. MapleStory the anime will be animated by Madhouse Studios.

Madhouse Studios had animated many top anime including Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, Last Order: Final Fantasy VII, Death Note, Nana, Sakura Wars and Spirited Away.
