Britannian Empire the result of Celestial Being’s intervention?

Posted by Neko Kyou in Random Fun, Thoughts on May 20th, 2008

Mordred first appeared in Code Geass R2’s OP animation instantly reminded me one sumo-sized Gundam. The bulkiness, shape and most importantly weapon are pretty much identical. Mordred was a red version of Virtue. I won’t be surprised if there’s another Knightmare Frame hidden underneath those armor ala Nadleeh.

Can you plagiarize yourself?

Then came Tristan with its Fortress Mode. To be fair, there have been many other mech capable of transforming into an aircraft so the idea isn’t exactly new. However, thanks to Mordred looking a lot like Virtue, it’s only natural to compare Tristan with Kyrios.

But hey, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Sunrise have been recycling their mech designs, right? After all, the Gundam series have been going on for decades with many very similar looking mobile suits appearing over and over again. Take Gundam Seed Destiny, for example. Gouf’s made a comeback, the DOM trio also appeared and let’s not forget Hyaku Shiki Akatsuki.

If you’ve watched Gundam 00 and episode 7 of R2, you might notice someone familiar. So similar in fact, there’s a chance that they are the same person. If G00 and R2 were set in the same universe, you might think that G00 is set in the future of R2. But now, there is proof that G00 might have actually happened in the past of R2.

Shirin Bakhtiar left Marina Ismail’s side at the end of Gundam 00 season 1, and here in R2 we find out where she went after that.

Code Geass R2 & Gundam 00 comparison

Shirin, more than 20 years after leaving Marina Ismail’s side…

Celestial Being must have somehow brought upon the rise of Britannia, and V.V. might have been a victim of their intervention (or a victim of Ali al-Saachez). Somehow he came with back the power of the gods and had Charles become his accomplice to take revenge on Celestial Being and eventually to overthrow even the gods.

You might be wondering whatever happened to the GN Drives and all those technology that was seen in G00 and that it doesn’t fit in with what we’re seeing in Code Geass. R2 seems to be taking a step backwards in term of technology, but that is not necessary true. The Avalon and the float system are superior to any single warship and flight technology available in Gundam 00.

As for why Gundam and the GN drives are no longer being used, don’t forget that no one actually knows how to build them outside Celestial Being. The GN-X drives were given to the various nations and they have not been able to reverse engineer them, so it’s possible that the solar furnace technology was lost.

Not to mention, given Charles memory altering Geass, he might have wiped out the world’s memory of Celestial Being, Gundam and MS’s for the purpose of his own world conquest. Another faction with Gundam going against him is the last thing he would want.

So Charles and V.V. took out Celestial Being, colonized Japan so that they wouldn’t suddenly produce even more Gundam, brainwashed the world and is having fun messing around with his kids while he continues to plot against the heavens.

Yup, it all makes perfect sense now.

Deprived of eternal sleep. Loneliness.

Rating: 7.5/10

Team Kakashi heads out to complete the Fire Temple mission. Along the way, Naruto is trying out his new wind ability which confuses the rest of the teammates. They thinks that he is scared to do the mission due to the previous night discussion about dead people and graves. Sai, who is still an amateur in making friends, always make the wrong decisions towards his relationship with his pals.

The team is supposed to meet with the people from the Fire Temple. However, they have not arrived after a long time. Yamato is worried and wonders if they have gone to the wrong rendezvous point. Thus, the team splits into two. Yamato and Sakura will search for the Fire Temple people while Sai and Naruto stay behind in case the people actually come. Unfortunately, an embarrassing incident happen between Sai and Naruto that makes both of them separated. After being chased by a wild boar, Naruto finds a hidden grave. He also finds a guy named Sora entering the grave. Sora is skilled at wind element and both of them duel each other.

The battle is stopped by Yamato and the temple people. Apparently, Naruto and Sora are supposed to be allies in completing the mission. After some introduction, they all head to the Fire Temple where Naruto feels a déjà vu about being there in his dream.

While in the temple, the monk leader explains everything about the problem and the loyal bodyguards of Fire Country’s feudal lord. Team Kakashi also has a chance to view the monk training too. Naruto, realizing that Sora is not serious in practicing, provokes him to a fight again. During the fight, Naruto realizes the other monks are starring at Sora as if they are despised at him. The battle ends and Sora flees to a mountain. Naruto visits him and has a private chat with him. As they return to the temple, another tomb is being robbed. The episodes end with the temple robbers surfing away on a wooden coffin.

Return of Roy Mustang? Librarians are licensed to kill!

Posted by Neko Kyou in Thoughts on May 15th, 2008

Flame Alchemist - Roy Mustang

“My dream is to make all female personnel wear mini-skirts!”

No there’s no new FMA specials on Mustang, but Atsushi Dojo have been reminding me of the flame alchemist since the very beginning. Maybe it’s because Dojo’s facial expression and position are similar to Mustang, but I’ll admit that was reason which initially got my interest in Toshokan Sensou.

Like Mustang, Dojo also apparently had a “foolish youth” period based on what he thought to himself in episode 5. I’m guessing something must have happened to him which turned him into this short demonic instructor. All Dojo needs now is to develop an annoying personality and become a womanizer.

Instructor Dojo

The new Roy Mustang?

The idea of a library task force taking arms against government censorship sounded kinda cool, yet silly at the same time. I mean, honestly, librarians as a military force? The most exciting thing to happen during my 2 years as a librarian in high school was discovering the mysterious door hidden away all the way at the back of library, behind the thick, cobweb covered reference book actually leads to a rarely used meeting room.

It also leaves a lot of questions on the table, such as if the Media Cleansing Committee was created by the government, while the library task force is a private organisation, why would the government allow the task force to push them around especially if they were so bent on censorship and even willing to kill to achieve it? Even if they have the Intellectual Freedom Statement, it doesn’t mean the government would give a damn. I believe most governments wouldn’t.

Even more interestingly is how they actually take up arms against each other as if they are sworn enemies in war, yet outside these library conflicts they still live and go about their lives together casually.

Maybe I’m missing some critical parts of the story, since the anime is adapted from a novel series which I’ve not heard before until now. What I do know is that currently there are a lot of holes in the plot which could use some explaining, such as what exactly is the government trying to hide from the public.

Even if they do manage to control information on printed materials and books (and from the looks of it, children’s book are no exception), there are plenty of other, more efficient ways for information to spread. Such as the Internet. China tried to regulate what their citizens can see on the Internet, but I would still say if they really want to, even those in China can easily get information their government is trying to keep away from them.

Demonic Dojo

Don’t you just wish he does this face more often?

Putting that aside, Toshokan Sensou is pretty entertaining. For what reason I still can’t really pinpoint other than I enjoyed watching the 2nd coming of Colonel Roy Mustang. So far there hasn’t been any specific moment in the anime worth mentioning. The military strategy is nothing to be shouting about, especially since we’ve been shown the brilliance of one Sergei Smirnov.

Neku Sig – The World Ends With You

Posted by Neko Kyou in Forum Sigs on May 12th, 2008

Neku - The World Ends With You / Subarashii Kono Sekai

Just finished the main story of Square-Enix’s latest hit, The World Ends With You. The actual translation of the game’s name from Japanese is It’s A Wonderful World (Subarashii Kono Sekai) but it seems that Squeenix had some copyright problem with that name in the US market.

I really love this game. The gameplay is extremely refreshing and the battles are very intuitive. Not to mention you get to turn Neku into a trap by dressing him up in girl’s clothing, which btw, actually has better stats than normal clothes. But the biggest draw to the game is probably the excellent storyline. It’s almost impossible to predict – I know none of my predictions ever came true. It’s full of twists and turns and would make a pretzel look straight.

But enough talking about the game, otherwise I would have to copy paste this entire post for my review of the game at Dyna’s gaming blog. This sig actually took me about 30 minutes to complete, and that’s pretty fast for me since I started without any idea of how it would look like in the end -normally if I start this way, it would take 2-3 hours at least to complete something which I’m satisfied with. Surprisingly, this turned out pretty good.

It’s been ages since I made a sig specifically for my own use so I’m happy with the result 😀
