A Problematic Matter

Clannad Episode 15

Rating: 7/10

Nagisa needs to be more firm (in more ways than one *grins*). Fuko needs to stop appearing for no reason. It was fun and reassuring when she first re-appeared, but she really needs to stop doing that once every few episodes.

Clannad Episode 15

I’m quite confused with what this episode is trying to achieve really. There’s just so much stuff going on all at once. At one point, it seemed as if we’ll get into Nagisa’s arc, then Sunohara started to have a somewhat significant role (not to mention his sister who suddenly appeared) and then there were hints of growing relationship between Tomoya and Tomoyo. Not to mention Kyou’s hint when Tomoya mentioned that he’s not dating anyone.

It could be KyoAni just hinting of things to come, although why they would waste an entire episode is beyond me. Unless of course, the series is planned to be longer than originally anticipated by most people.

It’s amazing how Tomoya can come up with lies after lies after lies on the spot with a straight face… I wonder if I can get some lessons from him. It would be a great skill to have 😀

Clannad lolcat

I couldn’t resist… XD

Minami-ke At Its Best

Posted by Neko Kyou in Minami-ke on January 27th, 2008

This post is ~2 weeks overdue. The damn sharks was back less than a couple of days after my last post. The connection today seems rather stable and a lot faster than it had been the last couple of weeks so I’m taking this chance to put up this post as fast as I can before the sharks returns again.

Minami-ke finally ended at episode 13 a few weeks ago, and although it’s weaker compared to the original for now, Okawari promises to be entertaining enough. Hopefully, maybe, a true sequel would surface in the near future so that we may all once again bow down to the full awesomeness of Chiaki-sama and the amazing Haruka. Oh yes, and the grand master schemer, Kana.

Looking back at the 13 episodes, it became quite obvious that Minami-ke have plenty of fanservice weaved subtly into the sister’s daily lives that isn’t exaggerated compared to most other series. And I think it worked really well, replacing the “OMG!” (which is usually my reaction to blatant fanservice) to “BWAHAHAHA!”, which I consider as fanservice at its best.

Here are some of the highlight from the best moments, some which are rather suggestive, of Minami-ke from the first episode all the way to the last.

Kana raping Chiaki-sama

The legendary chase scene…

It’s really too bad that we never did get to see more of those uber camera angles. Little did Kana know at the time that she would be in a very similar situation in the future.

Kana Peeking Chiaki-sama

Peek-a-boo! I see…

I’m surprised Chiaki-sama didn’t give Kana a whack in the head when she did that. And I wonder what exactly did Kana see down there…

Chiaka-sama sitting on Fujioka

And nobody present found this the least disturbing?

Even Haruka acted as if its something normal and perfectly acceptable to do. Or maybe she knew it wasn’t but thought that it was okay anyway since Fujioka is “kinda like” their father. Bah, he probably enjoyed it anyway.

Kana pants down!

A rather frequent scene if you asked me…

Kana really should get tighter pants. She has a tendency to have her pants pulled down by Chiaki-sama. A lot. And Takeru had full view of the entire scene!

Haruka at the beach

The most well developed in the series…

Haruka shows plenty of cleavage.

Haruka cleavage

Mmm…

Plenty.

Mako-chan is flat

Haruka likes little boys dressing up as girls yeah…

Haruka can be really dense at times. And that usually ends up in either her showing more skin than she ought to, or having Mako-chan rolling on the floor all red.

Takeru pinned

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. What I wouldn’t give to be in Takeru’s place right now…

Despite being depicted as a loser caring cousin (hah! I bet you’ve probably forgotten that!) most of the time, Takeru has had many front row seats to very interesting sceneries whenever he pops over.

Touma x Chiaki-sama

This is so wrong… yet it’s sooo right!

The introduction of Touma only made things 10x more interesting, especially when she starts raping arguing with Chiaki-sama. Put her alongside the opposite cross-dresser Mako-chan and we have the greatest cross-dressing duo of all times. Whoever can forget the “I am a boy!” declaration that came from both of them?

Touma is GAR!

“I am a boy!”

The single most daring scene in Minami-ke, with a boy in the room to boot! Then again, Mako-chan is technically a girl… so I guess it’s not that bad…

Kana raped

What goes around, comes around…

Kana pwned!

pwned!

An amazing start with the legendary chase scene, a satisfying end with Kana getting owned, for the love of Haruhi, please grant Minami-ke a true sequel by Doumu!

Theory of Everything

Clannad Episode 14

Rating: 8/10

I’ll have to admit, Kotomi’s arc was rather disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really good and very well executed, but it still pales in comparison with Fuko’s arc.

The buildup wasn’t as strong and solid, and while we do get more of Kyou, she never really did anything much and Nagisa was pretty much neglected the whole time. The whole arc was almost purely Tomoya – Kotomi only, with exceptions to the arc’s first episode.

It lacked the warmth and the strong emotions portrayed back in Fuko’s arc that had many ended up with a tear or two during the journey itself and turned Clannad into a sob-fest at the end.

Clannad Episode 14

At least now we know why Tomoya never made it for Kotomi’s birthday until after she set the envelope on fire. What really amazes me is how the suitcase containing Kotomi’s birthday present had survived all these years and had been passed along so many people across the globe.

They had only signed the letter with their initials, so other than the clue that the person the suitcase was meant for is Japanese, how had they managed to have the suitcase sent to the correct lab? Or rather, why hadn’t the people who had been playing “passing parcel” handed the suitcase to the authority? Surely they would have done a better, speedier job at locating Kotomi?

And for some strange reason I was convinced that Kotomi would suddenly disappear into thin air and later on revealed to be yet another spirit like Fuko. Must have been those fluffy looking light… things…

And while the message to pass the teddy bear along spoken in different languages sounded rather butchered (its good to be an Asian, you’re more likely to able to understand more languages 😀 ) I think KyoAni deserves to be praised for being able to pull it off in the first place.

I had expected the next episode to be the starting of either Kyou or Tomoyo’s arc, but looks like it would be something different altogether.

Tomoyo X Kotomi?

I was almost certain that Tomoya would confess to Kotomi right there and then…

Clannad Episode 13

The sharks finally gave up and connection is back up and running again. Hooray!

Garden of Memories

Clannad Episode 13

Rating: 6/10

Kotomi can really keep secrets and act all innocent. I didn’t expect Kotomi to have remembered about Tomoya from the very beginning but apparently she did.

The details behind Kotomi’s pasts were finally unveiled and Tomoya began to recalled everything that had happened in the past before. But at least now we finally got some clues on Kotomi’s obsession with the violin and Tomoyo’s bear costume. It must have been really harsh to lose both parents in a single day, on your own birthday no less.

Clannad Episode 13

But what surprised me was how Tomoya never turned up for her birthday. It seemed unlikely that he just forgot about it. Hopefully he’ll tell his side of the story in the next episode (which is already out by now).

It’s also rather amazing if you think about it. Kotomi had been all alone, seemingly refusing any outside help and had stayed in her empty house all these years. I’m guessing that her parents probably left her quite a sum of money for her to actually come this far without any outside aid. While it won’t help with the story’s progress, one does have to wonder about it. Did she really became independent almost overnight or has the old man been watching and protecting her from a distance?

The next episode would be the final one in Kotomi’s arc and I’ll be watching it right after posting this, so hopefully I can put up a review for it by tomorrow.

Chibi Tomoya

Tomoya, just simply wandering into someone’s garden…

Been slacking off a lot lately (partly due to those damn sharks) so I really need to get the momentum going again.

Damn those sharks…

Damn Sharks!

Damn those sharks.

You can blame the lack of updates on those dumb predators of the sea. They’ve killed my connection speed once again.

My Internet connection has been so terrible lately, it’s taken me nearly 12 hours just to get this post done. The above image took me about 10 minutes to download and another 15-20 to upload. Not to mention the hours it took to even get to the writing page on WordPress’s dashboard.

You’re probably wondering what does those damn sharks have anything to do with my connection speed by now 😀

It’s a joke which started when the underwater cable in the South China Sea connecting most of South East Asia’s Internet cables to Taiwan, which acted as our central hub to the rest of the world around early 2005. Connection was pretty much non-existent and even Google takes forever to load. The cause was an earthquake which damaged the undersea cable and a few other backbone cables in Taiwan.

The frustrations grew as the situation got worse and it was expected to take months to fully repair the cables so me and Dyna started to blame them sharks for taking a bite out of the cables, despite the fact that there are no sharks in the South China Sea. At least to my knowledge, anyway. Not like I can do a Google search and check it right now. It would take another 3-4 hours to do that right now.

My MSN keeps bouncing messages, ICQ keeps disconnecting and Skype messages keeps getting delayed. The only thing that seems to work right now is Gmail Chat, as long as I don’t refresh the page, that is.

So, damn those sharks!

I need to go find myself some shark fins. Vengeance will be so delicious.
